Zane Charron Bio

Zane’s first up close and personal exposure to a musical instrument was at the home of his best friend’s very musical family, where a guitar, horn or keyboard seemed to lay in every corner. In return for his interest they gave him his first nylon-stringed guitar when he was 14 (and what a piece of crap it was!). Soon thereafter he received a good steel-stringed acoustic guitar and the following summer (finally!) an electric Fender Stratocaster Squire, so that he could finally play the rock songs of his favorite bands such as Rush and R.E.M and have them sound right.

After only 1.5 years of dedicated practice he started putting a band together and had several more before graduating from high school in 1993 at the age of 17. While he continued to play during his stints in college (receiving a degree in audio engineering) and the Army (trained as a Russian linguist), his interest in the guitar waned by the time he left the armed forces in 2000 and he returned to Germany to work as a government contractor. During these 4 or 5 years he played his chosen instrument very little, bored with his limited repertory and lack of any real inspiration.

Upon returning to the US in 2004, Zane started teaching guitar part time in a local music store to supplement his income while in college (yet again!), and that pretty much sealed his fate. Being surrounded by guitars and musicians again reignited his passion for music and he quickly decided that it was time to attempt a career doing what he loved; playing guitar.

While gigging and teaching around Florida his musicianship grew immensely and he developed a (very) small fan base. Leaving behind the electric guitar in favor of the more versatile acoustic guitar, Zane concentrated on playing fingerstyle (a broad style encompassing guitar music played with the fingers instead of a plectrum/pick) and honing his ‘sound’. His teaching schedule had expanded to 5 days a week (with as many as 40 students) and his performance schedule steadily gave him 2 gigs each weekend. So what did he then do to further his growing music career in Central Florida? He moved to another continent.

With his wife Sylvia (married in 2002) he moved back to Munich, Germany where he could start all over again, but this time moving along a little quicker with a well-formed repertoire and some experience under his belt. His first album, Neither Here Nor There, will be released in early summer 2008 on Wonderland Records in Osnabrück, Germany.
